Synthesia Pricing: Synthesia Cost, the Starter Plan, and What a Finished Minute Really Costs
Every Synthesia plan turned into a cost per finished minute, how credits are charged when you edit a video, and when Starter, Creator or Enterprise is the right buy.
Synthesia pricing starts at $29 a month on the Starter plan, or $18 a month billed yearly, and that buys 10 minutes of finished avatar video a month. The Creator plan is $89 a month, or $64 billed yearly, for 30 minutes. Enterprise is a custom quote and is the only tier with SCORM export, SSO and unlimited minutes. There is also a $0 Basic plan for testing the editor.
The plan page lists those prices clearly. What it does not do is turn them into a cost per finished minute, which is the number a training or marketing lead actually has to defend. That math is below, along with how Synthesia's credits are consumed when you edit a video, taken from Synthesia's own pricing page and knowledge base in September 2026.
Synthesia pricing: every plan side by side
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Video included | Seats | Avatars | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | Not offered | 1,200 credits, about 10 minutes a month | 1 editor | 9 stock | The editor itself, for evaluation |
| Starter | $29 | $18 a month ($216 a year) | 10 minutes a month, or 120 minutes a year | 1 editor, 3 guests | 125+ stock | Video downloads, logo removal, AI dubbing, AI video assistant |
| Creator | $89 | $64 a month ($768 a year) | 30 minutes a month, or 360 minutes a year | 1 editor, 5 guests | 180+ stock, 5 personal | API access, branded video pages, interactive video, multiple avatars per scene |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited minutes | Custom editors and guests | 240+ stock, unlimited personal | SCORM export, brand kit, SAML SSO, one-click translation into 80+ languages, dedicated CSM |
Two things jump out. First, annual billing saves 38 percent on Starter, which is a bigger discount than most SaaS tools give. Second, the jump from Starter to Creator is not mainly about minutes. You pay $60 more a month for 20 more minutes, five personal avatars and API access. If you do not need your own face or your CEO's face on screen, two separate Starter subscriptions give you 20 minutes for $58, which is slightly cheaper per minute than Creator.
How much does Synthesia cost per minute of video?
Between $1.79 and $2.97 per finished minute on the self-serve plans, depending on the tier and whether you pay yearly. Annual Starter is the cheapest minute Synthesia sells without talking to sales. Creator is more expensive per minute than Starter, because part of its price pays for personal avatars and the API rather than footage.
| Plan and billing | Price | Minutes you get | Cost per finished minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter, monthly | $29 a month | 10 a month | $2.90 |
| Starter, annual | $216 a year | About 120 a year (14,500 credits) | About $1.79 |
| Creator, monthly | $89 a month | 30 a month | About $2.97 |
| Creator, annual | $768 a year | About 366 a year (44,000 credits) | About $2.10 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Falls as volume rises |
A worked example. An onboarding team shipping eight 4 minute modules a month needs 32 minutes. That is already over Creator's 30, so on monthly billing they either cut a module, add a second subscription, or open an Enterprise conversation. On annual Creator the same team needs 384 minutes a year against roughly 366 included, which is close enough that one reshoot pushes them over. Size the plan to the output you plan to ship plus a margin for revisions, never to the plan page.
How do Synthesia credits work?
Synthesia bills video in credits at 2 credits for every second of generated video, so one minute costs 120 credits. The monthly Starter allowance of 1,200 credits is exactly 10 minutes. The part that matters for budgeting is what happens when you edit a video that already exists, because Synthesia does not charge you for the whole video again.
- Removing words or reordering the script: no credits consumed.
- Adding or replacing words: you pay only for the duration of the new words.
- Adding or swapping an avatar: you pay for the seconds the new avatar is on screen.
- Changing voice language or accent: you pay for the duration of the change.
- Pronunciation, tone, framing, punctuation, removing an avatar: no credits consumed.
That is a meaningfully friendlier revision model than per-generation billing. A compliance video that goes through legal review three times does not cost three videos. It costs the original plus whatever new sentences legal added. If your content changes often, this rule is worth more than the headline price difference between Synthesia and its rivals.
What the Synthesia Starter plan gets you, and where it runs out
Starter is built for one person producing a few short videos a month: a product marketer recording feature announcements, a customer success lead making help center clips, a founder doing a monthly investor update. Ten minutes a month covers five 2 minute videos with room to spare. Downloads and logo removal both start here, which is why the free Basic plan works as a test drive rather than a production tool.
It runs out in three predictable places. You need a second person editing, since Starter allows one editor and three view-only guests. You need your own likeness as an avatar, which starts on Creator. Or you need to deliver training into an LMS, which means SCORM, and SCORM is Enterprise only.
Is Synthesia Enterprise pricing worth it?
For a training department, usually yes, because Enterprise is where the features L&D actually buys Synthesia for are unlocked: SCORM export, SSO for IT sign-off, brand kits, unlimited personal avatars and one-click translation into 80+ languages. Synthesia does not publish an Enterprise price, so expect a sales call and an annual contract sized to seats and usage.
The question to answer before that call is what the SCORM file will be loaded into. If your company does not yet run a corporate LMS to assign, track and certify training, you are buying the export format before the thing that reads it, and the video spend will not show up as completion data anywhere. Line the two purchases up in the same quarter.
Synthesia pricing vs HeyGen pricing
| Synthesia | HeyGen | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | Starter, $29 a month or $18 billed yearly | Creator, $29 a month or $24 billed yearly |
| How usage is measured | 2 credits per second, same rate for every standard video | Credits per minute that vary by avatar model, from 4 to 48 |
| Minutes on the entry plan | 10 a month | About 150 on Avatar III, 19 on Avatar IV Video Look |
| Personal avatar | From Creator, $89 | From Free, one custom avatar |
| SCORM export | Enterprise only | Business, $149 plus seats |
| Best for | Predictable per-minute budgets and heavily revised training content | Marketing and sales video where avatar realism drives the choice |
The practical difference is predictability. Synthesia charges the same rate for every standard minute, so a budget holds. HeyGen can be far cheaper per minute on its older avatar model and noticeably more expensive on its newest one. When neither Synthesia plan is the right purchase
Synthesia sells a presenter reading a script. That is exactly right for training, onboarding, policy updates and sales explainers, and it is the wrong tool when the video you need has nobody talking in it. A product rotating on a pedestal, an aerial shot of a warehouse, a vertical 8 second opener for a paid social ad: none of those use an avatar, and Synthesia is not designed to produce them.
That is the gap our generator fills. You describe a scene or upload a still image and get a 4, 8 or 12 second clip back in 16:9 or 9:16, cleared for commercial use, on plans from $49 a month or $24 a month billed yearly. It does not do avatars, voiceover or translation, so it does not replace Synthesia for training. Plenty of teams run both: Synthesia for the presenter segments and generated b-roll to cut between them. If that is your situation, the Synthesia alternative page explains where each tool fits, and you can compare VideoMake plans and credit allowances here.
Is Synthesia free?
Synthesia has a $0 Basic plan with 1,200 credits a month, about 10 minutes of video, 9 stock avatars and one editor. It is meant for evaluation. Downloading videos without the Synthesia logo, AI dubbing and the larger avatar library all start on the paid Starter plan at $29 a month or $18 a month billed yearly.
How much does Synthesia cost per month?
Synthesia costs $29 a month on Starter and $89 a month on Creator when billed monthly, or $18 and $64 a month when billed yearly. Enterprise is priced by quote. The effective cost ranges from about $1.79 to $2.97 per finished minute on the self-serve plans, before any extra seats.
Is Synthesia worth it?
Synthesia is worth it for teams that produce training or internal communication videos on a regular schedule and revise them often, because edits are billed only for new content and the per-minute rate is predictable. It is less compelling for a single occasional video, for anything that needs no presenter, or for teams that need SCORM but cannot justify an Enterprise contract.
