The short answer

Snagit costs $39 a year for an Individual license and $48 per user a year for a Business license in the US, with Business falling to $45.60 per user from 10 seats. There is no monthly plan, no free plan and no new one time purchase. The choice that matters for a company is Individual versus Business: Individual seats are locked to one person, Business seats move when people do.

Prices read from the US TechSmith store checkout in October 2026, before sales tax. TechSmith shows other currencies outside the US, so totals quoted in euros or pounds elsewhere will differ.

Own a perpetual Snagit license? Your deadline is December 31, 2026

TechSmith stopped selling perpetual licenses with Snagit 2025. Your old version keeps working forever, but TechSmith's own transition notice says Snagit 2024 is supported only through December 31, 2026 for customers without maintenance, and through October 2, 2027 with maintenance.

Customers with active maintenance get a legacy key with subscription access, and TechSmith promises that renewal stays below the full subscription price until at least 2030. Those keys arrive as Business licenses, so they are transferable and need no sign-in.

If maintenance lapsed, the realistic choice for a team is $48 a seat on Business, or staying on an unsupported version once the next macOS or Windows update breaks capture.

Snagit cost per year for a team

Seats times the US store price. Individual looks cheaper, but every leaver means a new $39 seat and a lost capture library, which is why most companies buy Business.

Users Individual licenses Business licenses Business per seat Camtasia Business (Snagit included)
1$39$48$48.00$198
5$195$240$48.00$990
10$390$456$45.60about $1,880
25$975$1,140$45.60about $4,700
50$1,950$2,280$45.60about $9,400

Break-even on Business

Business costs $9 more per seat than Individual, $6.60 from 10 seats. One person leaving in a 10 seat team and needing a new Individual seat already eats most of that gap.

When Camtasia is the better buy

If people also edit video, Camtasia seats already carry Snagit. Our Camtasia pricing breakdown shows which plan includes what.

No monthly billing

Every Snagit plan is billed for a year up front. Refunds are available for 14 days after purchase, then the seat runs until its renewal date.

Business. Step Capture builds numbered how-to guides from clicks and Smart Redact blurs customer emails and card numbers before a screenshot goes into a ticket or a knowledge base. Transferable seats matter in teams with contractors.

Training and customer education

Camtasia seats rather than Snagit alone, because courses need a multitrack editor and Snagit is included anyway. Teams comparing editors can use our Camtasia alternative guide.

Often Loom instead, if the goal is a quick narrated walkthrough sent as a link with viewer tracking. Snagit wins on annotated stills. Our Loom pricing page has the per-seat math.

Snagit pricing next to a scene generator

Snagit is the right buy for screenshots, step guides and short screen recordings. What it cannot do is show something that never appeared on a screen: the package arriving, the technician on site, the product in a customer's hands. That shot comes from a generator, and the MP4 drops into Snagit's video trimmer or any editor.

Questions people ask about Snagit pricing

How much is Snagit per year?

+

Snagit Individual costs $39 per year in the US TechSmith store and Snagit Business costs $48 per user per year, dropping to $45.60 per user once you buy 10 or more seats. Educators pay $39.36 per seat and verified students pay about $20. All plans are billed yearly; there is no monthly option.

Is Snagit a one time purchase?

+

No, not anymore. TechSmith stopped selling new perpetual Snagit licenses when Snagit 2025 launched and moved every new buyer to a yearly subscription. People who bought a perpetual license earlier keep the version they own, but new versions and new seats are subscription only.

Does Snagit have a free version?

+

No. Snagit has a free trial but no free plan. If you need captures for work beyond the trial, the lowest price is the $39 Individual subscription, or a Camtasia plan, because TechSmith includes Snagit in every Camtasia plan.

Does Snagit license expire?

+

A subscription license expires at the end of the paid year if you do not renew, and access to the 2025 and later versions ends with it. A perpetual license bought before 2025 never expires, but TechSmith supports Snagit 2024 only through December 31, 2026 for owners without maintenance.

What is the difference between Snagit Individual and Business?

+

Snagit Individual ($39 a year) is tied to one named person who signs in, and it cannot be moved to a colleague. Snagit Business ($48 per user) needs no end-user account, its licenses can be reassigned when someone leaves, seats can be added self-serve, and it adds phone support and volume pricing from 10 seats.

Does Snagit come with Camtasia?

+

Yes. TechSmith includes Snagit in all Camtasia plans, including Camtasia Business seats at $198 per user per year. If anyone on the team edits video as well as capturing screenshots, buying Camtasia seats is cheaper than paying for Snagit and Camtasia separately.

Does Snagit capture video?

+

Yes. Snagit records the screen, webcam and audio and lets you trim the result, which covers short how-to clips and bug reports. It is not a full video editor, and it does not create footage that was never on a screen. Longer tutorials usually move to Camtasia for multitrack editing.

Does Snagit use AI?

+

Snagit uses on-device features TechSmith markets as smart tools: Smart Redact finds emails, phone numbers and card numbers to blur, Step Capture turns clicks into a numbered guide, and OCR grabs text from images. It does not generate images or video from a prompt.
