Screencastify Pricing and Screencastify Cost per User
What Screencastify Free, Starter, Pro and Enterprise cost per user, the 5 member cap on self-serve plans, yearly totals for small teams, and how it compares with Loom, Screen Studio and Vidyard.
Screencastify costs $0 on the Free plan, $7 per user per month on Starter billed annually ($19 if you pay month to month), and $10 per user per month on Pro billed annually ($25 monthly). Enterprise and EDU plans are quoted. For a business team, the number that matters most is not the price: the Free, Starter and Pro plans allow up to 5 members per account, so a team of six or more is talking to sales.
Every price below comes from the Screencastify pricing page and its plan comparison table, in US dollars before tax, checked in October 2026.
Screencastify plans and prices at a glance
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Recording length | Quality | Members |

| Free | $0 | $0 | 30 minutes per video, 10 videos total | Up to 1080p | Up to 5 |
| Starter | $7 per user per month | $19 per user per month | 60 minutes per video, unlimited videos | Up to 1080p | Up to 5 |
| Pro | $10 per user per month | $25 per user per month | 180 minutes per video, unlimited videos | Up to 4K | Up to 5 |
| Enterprise & EDU | Custom | Custom | Custom | Up to 4K | Unlimited |
Starter adds basic editing, questions and polls inside videos, video requests (Castify Submit) and advanced collaboration. Pro adds AI enhancements and AI editing, edit by transcript, AI generated questions, captions and transcripts, translations into 90+ languages, voiceovers, an AI teleprompter, and upload and download of media. Enterprise and EDU add central admin controls, LMS integrations (Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology), Google and Microsoft SSO, dedicated training and an assigned success manager.
Two paid add-ons sit on top of Pro and Enterprise: Castify Transform, which turns a recording into a how-to guide, bug report or study document with screenshots and timestamps (100 transformations per user a month on Pro), and Submit AI, which writes assignment instructions, rubrics and suggested grades (500 credits a month). The pricing page lists them as optional add-ons without a public price.
How much does Screencastify cost per year?
One Starter seat costs $84 a year on annual billing or $228 if you pay monthly for twelve months. One Pro seat costs $120 a year annually or $300 monthly. Annual billing saves 63 percent on Starter and 60 percent on Pro, which is one of the steepest annual discounts among screen recorders, so monthly billing only makes sense for a project that ends within a few months.
| Users | Starter, annual | Starter, monthly | Pro, annual | Pro, monthly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $84 | $228 | $120 | $300 |
| 2 | $168 | $456 | $240 | $600 |
| 3 | $252 | $684 | $360 | $900 |
| 5 | $420 | $1,140 | $600 | $1,500 |
| 6 or more | Enterprise or EDU quote, because self-serve plans stop at 5 members | |||
Viewers never need a seat. Unlimited people can watch on every plan, including Free, so the seat count is the number of people who record.
Is Screencastify free?
Screencastify has a free plan, but it is capped at 10 videos per account, not 10 per month. You can keep, watch and share those 10 for as long as you like, and each person you invite adds 5 bonus videos, up to 4 invites (20 extra). Once the cap is reached, recording stops until you move to Starter. For anyone recording weekly for work, the free plan is a trial with a counter, not a plan.
Screencastify Starter vs Pro, which one to buy
Buy Starter if people record short walkthroughs under an hour, share them as links, and do light trimming. At $84 a seat a year it is one of the cheapest paid screen recorders for business use, and it already includes questions and polls, which most rivals charge more for.
Buy Pro if any of these apply:
- You publish to customers or students who need captions, transcripts or translated versions.
- Recordings run past 60 minutes, such as webinars or full lectures.
- You need 4K, or you want to download the MP4 rather than only share a watch page.
- You want edit by transcript and AI cleanup to cut editing time.
The $36 a seat a year gap between the two plans is less than an hour of anyone's time, so if captions are a requirement for accessibility, Pro is the sensible default.
Screencastify pricing for schools and districts
Teachers can buy Starter or Pro with a card like anyone else, but district buyers go through Enterprise & EDU, which adds LMS integrations, admin controls, SSO, YouTube for EDU and standards-aligned content. Screencastify accepts purchase orders for orders of $500 or more and states it is SOC 2 Type II certified and built for K-12 privacy standards, which is usually what a district procurement checklist asks for first.
How Screencastify compares on price with other screen recorders
Here is the yearly list price for one person on the plan a business would buy, from each vendor's own pricing page.
| Tool and plan | Per seat per year | Runs on | Best at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screencastify Starter | $84 | Chrome browser | Quick team and classroom videos with questions |
| Screencastify Pro | $120 | Chrome browser | Captioned, translated training videos up to 3 hours |
| Screen Studio | $108 | Mac only | Polished product demos with auto zoom |
| Loom Business | about $180 | Mac, Windows, browser | Async walkthroughs with viewer insights |
| Vidyard Starter | $708 | Mac, Windows, browser | Sales prospecting videos with analytics |
Screencastify is the cheapest of the group per seat and the only one with in-video questions on its entry paid plan. Its limits are the 5 member cap on self-serve plans and the fact that it lives in the browser. If your team is on Macs and the videos are product demos for a website, our Screen Studio pricing breakdown shows the yearly bill per seat. If the goal is quick async updates across a whole company, the Loom pricing page has the math for 5 to 50 seats, and sales teams weighing a prospecting tool can read our Vidyard pricing guide.
Many teams buy a recorder to replace meetings: a recorded update instead of a weekly status call. That works for updates, but some conversations still need a live slot, and a scheduling tool that lets people book the meetings you still hold keeps those from eating the time the recordings saved.
What Screencastify cannot record
Every screen recorder, Screencastify included, captures what is already on a screen or in front of a webcam. Training and marketing videos often need something else: a scene of a nurse at a bedside for a compliance module, a delivery driver at a door for an onboarding course, a product on a kitchen counter for a launch. Nobody films those for a single lesson, so the lesson ships with a slide instead.
That shot is what VideoMake makes. Type the scene or upload a still image, and it renders a 4, 8 or 12 second clip in 16:9 or 9:16 that you upload into Screencastify Pro (upload is on Pro) or any editor next to your recording. The generator sits at the top of this page, plans are on the AI video generator pricing page, and the AI b-roll generator page shows how teams use generated cutaways inside tutorials.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Screencastify cost?
Screencastify Starter costs $7 per user per month billed annually or $19 monthly, and Pro costs $10 per user per month billed annually or $25 monthly. That is $84 or $120 per user a year on annual billing. Free is $0 with a 10 video cap, and Enterprise and EDU are quoted.
Is Screencastify free for teachers?
Teachers get the same Free plan as everyone: 10 videos, 30 minutes each, plus 5 bonus videos per invited colleague up to 20. There is no separate free teacher tier. Schools and districts that want unlimited recording, LMS integrations and admin controls buy Enterprise and EDU on a quote, and purchase orders are accepted from $500.
How many users can be on a Screencastify account?
The Free, Starter and Pro plans allow up to 5 members per account, according to the plan comparison table on the pricing page. Enterprise and EDU accounts allow unlimited members. Every member who records needs a paid seat on Starter or Pro, while viewers are unlimited and need no account.
Does Screencastify require a download?
No. Screencastify runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install beyond adding it to Chrome. It records a browser tab, the full screen or the webcam, which makes it easy to roll out on managed Chromebooks and locked-down school or company laptops where installing desktop apps needs IT approval.
Is Screencastify Pro worth it?
Pro is worth it when videos go to customers or students. For $36 more per user a year than Starter, it adds captions and transcripts, translations into 90+ languages, 4K, 180 minute recordings, media download and AI editing. For internal walkthroughs under an hour, Starter covers the job.
Is Screencastify cheaper than Loom?
Yes, per seat. Screencastify Starter is $84 and Pro is $120 per user a year on annual billing, against about $180 for Loom Business on yearly billing. Loom has no 5 member cap on its Business plan and adds viewer insights, so larger companies often accept the higher price.
