Captions App Pricing and What Max and Frontier Credits Buy
Every Captions plan in US dollars, what the monthly credits buy in prompt to video and Veo 3.1 clips, the 3x rollover cap and which plan fits a creator, a brand or a team.

Captions app pricing starts at $9.99 a month for Basic (the plan formerly called Pro), which removes the watermark and includes 200 AI credits. Max costs $24.99 a month with 500 credits and unlocks AI Twin, AI actors, prompt to video and the chat editor. Frontier costs $69.99 a month with 1,400 credits, and its 2x and 4x versions cost $139.99 and $279.99. Enterprise is quoted by sales. Every paid tier works out to about 5 cents per credit, so moving up buys volume and stronger models, not a discount.
The prices below were read from captions.ai/pricing and the Captions help center article on credits in October 2026. Captions notes that the prices shown are its iOS plans in US dollars, so the web or Android checkout can differ slightly. Many review sites still list a $9.99 "Pro" and a "Scale" tier; those are the same plans under their old names.

Captions also sells yearly billing, charged 12 months up front at a discount, but the discounted yearly rate is shown only at checkout rather than on the public pricing page. If you plan to keep the app for a year, check that number before you subscribe, because it is the only real discount Captions offers below Enterprise.
How Captions credits work and what they buy
Every AI feature draws from your monthly credits: generated images, video, music, sound effects, voiceover, AI Edit and prompt to video. Plain editing (trim, zoom, transitions, resizing, captions and caption templates) does not. Two details catch people out. Credits are spent when the AI generates something, whether or not you export the project. And you cannot buy single credits; when you run out before the refresh date, the help center's only answer is to upgrade to the next plan, unless you are on Frontier 4x or a Teams or Business contract, which can top up.
| AI feature | Credit cost | On Max (500) | On Frontier (1,400) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prompt to video | 16 credits per 6 seconds | About 3 minutes | About 8.7 minutes |
| AI Edit of your footage | 10 to 40 credits | 12 to 50 edits | 35 to 140 edits |
| Veo 3.1 clip, 4 seconds | 64 credits | 7 clips | 21 clips |
| Veo 3.1 Fast clip, 6 seconds | 36 credits | 13 clips | 38 clips |
| Generated image | 1 to 6 credits | 83 to 500 images | 233 to 1,400 images |
| Chat based editing | 2 per message, 1 per action | Depends on the request | Depends on the request |
In dollars, prompt to video works out to about 13 cents per second of finished video on any paid plan, and a 4 second Veo 3.1 clip costs about $3.20 of plan value, or roughly 80 cents a second. Which generation models appear in your menu depends on the plan; Captions reserves its most advanced tier of models for Frontier.
Do Captions credits roll over?
Yes. Unused credits roll over on Basic and every plan above it, up to a balance of 3 times your monthly allowance, so Max can bank up to 1,500 credits and Frontier up to 4,200. The rollover has three exits. Downgrading cuts your balance to the new plan's cap immediately and forfeits the rest. Cancelling keeps credits usable until the paid period ends, then they are gone. Upgrading leaves existing credits untouched, which makes it the safe direction to move mid month.
What is the difference between Captions Max and Frontier?
Frontier costs $45 more a month than Max and gives 2.8 times the credits (1,400 against 500) plus access to Captions' most advanced generative models. The editing features are the same. Max is the plan for a creator who records themselves and uses AI for edits, a digital twin and occasional generated b-roll. Frontier makes sense once generated footage, not editing, is the bulk of what you spend credits on, for example an ecommerce brand turning out several AI ads a week.
Which Captions plan fits your workload
| Who you are | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Creator who films themselves and needs clean captions | Basic, $9.99 | Watermark free exports and the full caption template library; 200 credits cover a few AI Edits a week |
| Creator or coach who wants an AI Twin and AI b-roll | Max, $24.99 | AI Twin, AI actors and prompt to video start here; 500 credits is about 3 minutes of prompt to video |
| Brand or agency producing AI ads weekly | Frontier, $69.99 and up | Credit volume and the strongest models; step to 2x or 4x rather than running dry, since credits cannot be bought separately |
| Marketing team with several editors | Enterprise | Custom seats, role permissions, bulk credit discounts and SOC 2, which consumer plans do not provide |
Is Captions worth paying for?
Captions is worth paying for if you record talking videos on your phone and want captions, cuts, eye contact correction and an AI Twin without learning a desktop editor. At $9.99 Basic is one of the cheapest ways to get branded captions on every Reel, and Max at $24.99 is fair for a creator who also wants AI b-roll. If you run your channel as a business, the subscription is a deductible software expense, and an income tracker for creators keeps it next to the YouTube, TikTok and sponsor payouts it helps earn. It is a weaker buy for a team that edits long recordings on desktop, because seats and permissions sit behind an Enterprise quote.
For that desktop team case, compare the per member plans in our Kapwing pricing per member breakdown and Descript pricing per editor. If your main job is cutting podcasts and webinars into Shorts, Opus Clip pricing and credits is priced by input minute instead, which can be cheaper for long sources.
Captions next to a clip generator
Captions is an editor with generation added on top. VideoMake works the other way around: it renders original 4, 8 or 12 second clips from a prompt or a still image in 9:16 or 16:9, at 1 credit per second of 720p, and adds AI presenter clips where a generated person says a line of up to 20 words with lip sync. Plus costs $49 a month for 49 credits, about $1 a second, so on raw price per second Captions' generation credits are cheaper. Where VideoMake fits better is a desktop or browser workflow that needs continuous 8 and 12 second shots in both formats, an API for batch work and the same account for captions and simple montages, without an app store subscription per editor.
| Tool and plan | Monthly price | What you mostly get |
|---|---|---|
| Captions Basic | $9.99 | Phone first editor with captions, 200 AI credits |
| Captions Max | $24.99 | AI Twin, AI actors, prompt to video, 500 credits |
| Opus Clip Pro | $29 ($14.50 yearly) | Long video cut into Shorts, 300 input minutes |
| Kapwing Pro | $24 per member ($16 yearly) | Browser editing for teams, 1,000 credits |
| VideoMake Plus | $49 ($24 yearly) | New 4 to 12 second clips and short presenter lines |
Questions people ask about Captions app pricing
How much does Captions app cost?
The Captions app costs $9.99 a month on Basic, $24.99 on Max and $69.99 on Frontier, with Frontier 2x at $139.99 and Frontier 4x at $279.99. Those are the iOS prices in US dollars listed on captions.ai/pricing. Yearly billing is charged up front at a discount shown at checkout, and Enterprise teams get a custom quote with bulk credit discounts.
Is Captions app free?
Captions has a free plan with trimming, transitions, one caption template and a one time allowance of 60 to 200 AI credits that does not refresh. Exports carry a watermark. To remove it and unlock the 100+ caption templates you need Basic at $9.99 a month, and AI Twin, AI actors and prompt to video start on Max at $24.99.
Can I cancel Captions anytime?
Yes. You can cancel or change plans from account settings or from the App Store or Google Play subscription page if you paid there. A cancelled plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and your remaining credits expire when it ends. Downgrading also stays on the current plan until the cycle ends, while upgrades apply immediately and are prorated.
Can you buy more credits on Captions?
Not on most plans. Captions does not sell individual credits, so when Basic, Max or Frontier runs out before the refresh date you upgrade to the next tier. Top ups are available only on Frontier 4x and on Teams or Business contracts, and those top up credits carry over if you do not use them.
